About me

Consider this. I don’t like talking about me. And nonetheless, on this page, I will (a bit). I indeed think it a necessity for understanding at least a bit about me and this blog.

Here on the internet I am known as solun or kindsolun.

I do not believe in objectivity. We all have different backgrounds, and they’re shaping us and our minds in ways particular to them, particular to each and everyone of us.

For starters, I try to grasp what I think most of my privileges are and lay them out in front of me. I will not tell in details what they are here, as I’d like to keep my anonymity in this place that is the internet, where lately it became harder and harder to do so.
I would prefer being able to give an honest review of what those privileges in my life are, because I believe in not spouting nonsense freely and having some responsibilities over what is said in anyone’s writings voluntarily pushed to the public.
Words have meaning and power, so we need to be careful and know where we come from.
I don’t believe that my privileges are the only things that define me as a person, but it still does a lot more than I’d like, I think it pushes or keeps me in contexts I wouldn’t or couldn’t be otherwise.

Knowing all of this means in no way that I believe I’m always right, but it shows that my views do not come from thin air. I am a subject of this world just like everyone else, and so my life is shaped by the places I live, the people I meet, the policies of my countr.y.ies and so many other parameters.

Also note that privileges are not set in stone, and subject to change, some of them frequently, some of them not so much. It is important for me to retake a photography of how things are at regular times in my life. As humans, we are bound to change and evolve continuously, which is why this page is and will always be subject to change.

Now that you know all this, here are a few specifics about me :

  • I’m a leftist, I want eco-socialism and a good life for everyone at zero merit cost. It pains me so much to think that we have enough resources for every human being to live a plentiful life, but somehow some people made us end up in this reality, through some hazardous evolution of “domination by violence” and “fear of the dominants being dominated“. I want no part with this sorry state of affairs, and yet I have to endure it every day.
  • I live in fairly good conditions, in a fairly wealthy country of the Global North, and so I have the chance to get a lot of time to think and educate myself. I’m no genius and I got serious commitment issues but I try my best to transform this education in something, ideally something great for one of my communities or other people and not just me. I try to know what’s my social position in precise ways at regular occurrences, because I want to be able to reach and ear the people outside of my social class.
  • I believe, I really do, in kindness, peer-support, open communication, informed consent, human and nature connection, communities and overall the contrary of humans being the wolves of humans. I believe our current society pushes many people to do awful things, but I also believe that we will be able to make it change for most of them, hopefully without violence, which I’d really like to not have to use despite the incentives raising faster and faster.
  • I like the art of writing and I’m more and more interested in the practice of journalism. Reporting and analyzing things is interesting to me, and I’d like to also write essays to populate this blog, among articles I’ll write to practice. With all this, I’d like to make food for thoughts, but I would also really like to make food for acts, and I’m gonna think real hard about finding ways to give people the right push to start and do meaningful things (and also meaningless things because we need them just as much).
